Leaf beetles  - Genus Dicranosterna

Subfamily Chrysomelinae, FAMILY CHRYSOMELIDAE

This page contains pictures and information about Paropsine Leaf beetles of Genus Dicranosterna that we found in the Brisbane area, Queensland, Australia.

All Dicranosternaspecies feed on Acacia. Their larvae are in globular shape.

There are 34 described species and all are endemic to Australia. We found two species in Brisbane.

Dicranosterna picea, adult body length 12mm, larva body length 10mm
Those Acacia Leaf Beetles are common in Wishart bushland. They are reddish-brown in colour. This are common in Brisbane bushes. We easily found many of them on the Acacia trees from early summer to late summer. More pictures and information are on this page

Dicranosterna immaculata (Paropsis immaculata), body length 12mm
This leaf beetle looks a bit different than the one above. They are also found on Acacia plants. Chick this page for more information.

Dicranosterna circe, body length 10mm
On May 2008 near Buhot Creek in Daisy Hill, we found this beetle on a small Acacia tree. It was slowly walking on stems and leaves. We found there was no other leaf beetle on the same plant, and no larvae were found. More information can be found in this page.
