Brown Swarming Leaf Beetle - Rhyparida sp.

FAMILY CHRYSOMELIDAE

This page contains pictures and information about Brown Swarming Leaf Beetles that we found in the Brisbane area, Queensland, Australia.

Body length 8mm

The beetle was found near Bulimba Creek in Sunnybank during early summer Nov 2007. They merge and swarm after the first heavy rains of the summer season.

We miss-identified this leaf beetle as Rhyparida clypeata. Chris Reid sent us email advised this is a Rhyparida but definitely not clypeata which is only found in the tropics.

Thank to Chris Reid for the identification of this leaf beetle.
