Banksia Notodontid Moth - Psalidostetha banksiae (Danima banksiae)

This page contains pictures and information about Banksia Notodontid Moths and caterpillars that we found in the Brisbane area, Queensland, Australia.

Length 50mm 
The caterpillar can be found feeding on Banksia and Grevillea leaves. They feed openly during the day.

In the above picture the caterpillar was found feeding on Grevillea in Alexandra Hill bushland during late summer. We found quite a number of them on one plant.

When disturbed, the caterpillar raised its head as the above pictures. 
 
We brought two home and try to raise them and see how the adult moth look like, but not success.

We found two feeding on a Banksia tree during the day in Karawatha Forest in mid summer. 
 
They pupate in cocoon on ground under plant materials. The adult moths are white or grey with black patterns on wings and abdomen orange. We did not find any yet.
