Brisbane Ladybirds Field Guide

This page is the Quick Field Guide of common Ladybird Beetles, both adults and larvae, found in Brisbane. This includes most of the common species found in Brisbane near-by area and South East Queensland, Australia. 
 

Ladybird Adults 

Ladybird male and female are more or less looked the same. They are about the same size , or female is a bit larger.
 
Name: Red Chilocorus, Armoured Scale Predator, Chilocorus circumdatus
Body length: 4mm
Feed on: scale insects
Identification: bright orange in colour with dark edges on the wing-cover base.
 
Name: Steelblue Ladybird, Halmus chalybeus
Body length: 3mm
Feed on: scale insects
Identification: small in size, shiny dark green in colour.
 
Name: Orange-spotted Ladybird, Orcus australasiae
Body length: 5mm
Feed on: scale insects
Identification: dark green with six orange dots.
 
Name: Minute Two-spotted Ladybird, Diomus notescens
Body length: 2.5mm
Feed on: not known
Identification: very small, dark green in colour with brown spot on each of the forewings.
