Yellow Paper Wasp - Ropalidia romandi

FAMILY VESPIDAE

This page contains pictures and information about the Yellow Paper Wasps that we found in the Brisbane area, Queensland, Australia.

Body length 12mm
We found this Yellow Paper Wasp near Bulimba Creek in Wishart on Oct 2007. This wasp is small in size, with more yellow colour than the other paper wasps.

The wasp was hunting on small plants. It did not care too much on our approaching. We did not find its nest yet. It could be a large paper nest up to one meter long, with multi-layered structure. If you find it, do not disturb it for the wasps will give very painful sting.

We found another one about the same area on Nov 2007. They could be belong to the same nest. Will follow them next time to track their nest.
