Leaf Beetles - other than Chrysomelinae
- Lantana Leafminer Beetle

- Octotoma scabripennis, subfamily Hispinae, body length 10mm
- At first we saw there are some dirt on the leaf. Then we found there other
quite a number of dirt with similar shape on different leaves. When we came
close, we notice they are insects. Since they have hard wings cover with two
wings meet at middle, we believe they are beetles. Here we like to thank
Dr. Kaae again. Dr. Kaae advised that this two beetles are also Chrysomelidae.
Then we found out that they are Lantana Leafminer Beetles. It is hard to tell, isn't it? Their larvae mine inside lantana leaves.

We saw this beetle (first photo) in Karawatha Park. It flied away after we took the above photo. Its body is bright orange-red in colour, covered by the metallic dark green wing-covers. Its head, legs and antenna are all black. We saw it again (the second photo) in Karawatha Park the next year. Again, it flied away after we took the one photo.

- Here we would like to thank Boris Büche
