Scale Cricket - Ornebius sp.

Family GRYLLIDAE, subfamily Mogoplistinae 

This page contains pictures and information about the Scale Crickets that we found in the Brisbane area, Queensland, Australia. 

 

Male, body length 30mm 

 

 

 

Pictures were taken in Karawatha Forest during early and mid summer. We saw this cricket a few times. Females of Scale Crickets are wingless.

 

 

Male                                                                                                                                                This one could be the male last instars. 

 

The cricket usually found hiding under loosen bark of gum tree. Also found resting on leaf.
